Marriage & Family Therapy – Inner Strength
Inner Strength is a therapy practice located at 4510 E Pacific Coast Highway, Suite 210, Long Beach, California 90804. The practice is led by Stacy Maureen Mitchell, MS, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience in private and social service settings. The practice concentrates on child and adolescent therapy, with particular attention to youth who have experienced physical or emotional trauma.
Therapeutic services offered include play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, anger management, life transitions counseling, and LGBTQIA+ individual therapy. Presenting concerns addressed encompass anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, ADD/ADHD symptoms, self-harm, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, school difficulties, and challenges that arise from divorce, loss, abuse, or neglect. The variety of focus areas reflects the range of stressors that affect school-age children and teenagers in family and community contexts.
Mitchell describes the clinical approach as holistic and individualized, aimed at identifying the root causes of a child’s presenting difficulties rather than managing surface behaviors alone. Parents and caregivers are incorporated into the treatment process to provide consistent support between sessions and reinforce progress made in the therapy room. Open communication with families is a stated priority of the model, and empowering children to develop their own coping capacities is an explicit part of the treatment philosophy.
Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual child’s needs, strengths, and history. Sessions are not standardized to a single method but draw from the range of modalities the practice offers based on what the child needs at each stage of treatment.
Office hours run Monday through Thursday, 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Insurance is accepted alongside self-pay options. Specific carriers are listed on the Rates and Insurance page.
