Clinical Social Work Practice – Blue Ridge Counseling, LLC
Established in 1996, Blue Ridge Counseling, LLC is a private outpatient emotional wellness practice founded by Dr. Keith E. Fender, PhD, LCSW. The practice operates from two Virginia locations: 519 Second Street, Radford, VA 24141, and 2728 Colonial Avenue SW, Suite 10, Roanoke, VA 24015. Dr. Fender’s credentials include Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider, Clinically Certified Domestic Violence Counselor, and Diplomate status with the National Association of Forensic Counselors.
Services encompass individual and group treatment addressing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, cognitive disorders, and personality disorders. Specialized program areas cover forensic mental health, geriatric mental health, violence risk assessment, sex offender evaluations and treatment, substance abuse counseling, and certified batterer intervention programs serving central and southwest Virginia communities.
The Domestic Violence Alternatives Program provides group sessions at $40 per session, covering topics including conflict resolution, healthy relationships, anger management, and parenting skills. An Anger Management Program offers an 8-hour Saturday format for $180. The practice holds active contracts with the Virginia Department of Corrections, Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, and Federal Probation and Parole Districts, reflecting its established role in court-mandated and forensic mental health service delivery across the region. Dr. Fender has completed over 3,000 domestic violence risk assessments since the practice opened in 1996 and currently oversees approximately 250 outpatient clients. He holds qualifications as an expert witness in both Virginia and North Carolina and has provided training to law enforcement.
Sessions are delivered in person. Standard office hours run Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with some weekend and evening availability noted on the site.
